The possibilities of cleaning with vinegar seem endless, but it’s important to understand that it is not safe to use everywhere in your home. We’ll explore how to clean with vinegar, so you can better understand the best times to use a vinegar cleaning solution and the best times to find an alternative.

Cleaning using a white distilled vinegar is not only effective but also eco-friendly. It can be used for various cleaning tasks but should also be avoided other times.

What can I clean with vinegar?

  • Glass/Mirrors:

    • Streaks can drive anyone insane when you're trying to clean glass but can't seem to get rid of the streaks. Cleaning with vinegar will give you a streak-free finish! A combination of 2 parts vinegar and 1 part water is amazing for leaving behind zero streaks on glass and mirrors. Cleaning your mirrors or any glass can be simply cleaned by spraying the solution and wiping with a microfiber cloth.

  • Showerheads:

    • Vinegar isa great cleaning solution especially when it comes to a shower head that can be covered in water settlement buildup or soap scum. To successfully clean a showerhead without the harsh chemicals, you can add equal parts water and vinegar in a zip lock bag and simple place shower head and tie up leaving to soak for an hour. If you can easily remove the shower head, you can mix the solution in a bowl and place the showerhead to soak. Once the shower head has soak for a minimum of one hour, you can use a toothbrush or a soft bristled cleaning brush to scrub and follow up with a rinse.

  • Microwave:

    • Cleaning your microwave can be a task in itself! Splatters are bound to happen on the top sides and sometimes things get spilled. Simple fill a microwave safe bowl with equal parts water and vinegar and heat to a boil. Let the solution sit to cool before removing the bowl and simply wipe out with a damp rag or sponge.

  • Dishwasher:

    • Are you properly cleaning your dishwasher? Do you notice a buildup or a foul odor? Using vinegar within your dishwasher can help eliminate odor and prevent build-up. Do successfully clean and deodorize your dishwasher simply add 1 cup of vinegar and run on a normal cleaning cycle.

  • Floors:

    • You have to be cautious when using vinegar on your floors as not all floors can handle the vinegar. When cleaning your floors you should not use vinegar on hardwood or natural stone floors. Due to its acidic nature, vinegar can remove the finish on your hardwood and leave water marks behind. However, it is safe to use on no-wax linoleum or laminate.

      • Add 1/2 cup of vinegar to 1/2 gallon of water. To clean ceramic tile, add 1/2 cup of vinegar to 1 gallon of water; you can add 1-3 drops of your favorite essential oil for a more fragrant clean.
